This book arrived in my letter-box this very morning. Lucky me ! Before you even start to read it, there's interesting things to see. For a start, they get its English title wrong. "WILLIAM THE FOUTH" ...that's a good start. Then there's the wonderful, and coincidental, name of the translator ... "Guillermo López Hipkiss" Hmmm. My copy was printed in Madrid in 1979 ... and it looks as if it's never been read. Which is a shame. The illustrations are very much of their time ....I suspect that the English original was first published in the 1940's or early '50's....... so here's some of them. Plus their excellent captions of course... remember folks ...this was a colourless, short-trousered, peculiar world. I know .. I lived in it. Well, I hope you enjoyed those .... though some of you who aren't quite as ancient as me must think those illustrations are pretty crap. Just remember that at the time they were cutting-edge stuff !!!!! And here's Vetusta Morla with a fine words video for " Profetas de la Mañana" ... ace ! |
AuthorI'm just somebody learning Spanish like most of you reading this I suppose. This blog is mostly what I'm thinking about as I go along. There is some serious stuff on here, grammar, vocabulary etc, but there is also a lot of mucking about, peculiar insights and lots of homework and games and puzzles, and how could I forget, music. Lots of music..Whatever I do, I hope it will all be Terrific For Your Spanish! Archives
