Of course you all know how to play ordinary Scrabble. You don't really need any instructions from me... and I've already showed you how to make your own set. Just click on December 2016 on the right there to find it if you don't remember ... it's in with that lot .. It's very interesting to try other "versions" of the rules. For example. there's a version called " Clabbers" where you can, if you wish, put down your word with the letters in the wrong order, as an anagram if you like. So if you had the word " perro" for example, you could lay down the letters as " rpore" or "porer" or "eoprr" . But why would you want to do that ? Well, you will see in this little bit of a game.....Alan has gone first, and has put down FAGSA it's actually GAFAS of course, but he's done it that way so the F can go on the double-letter square.... I nudged the F over a bit so you can see it. That means more points! Result !! He get 13 x 2 = 26 points . ...now, Betty has the letters to make AHORA but she wants more points too, so she sticks the H on another double-letter square .. and scores 12. .... 8 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 1. Let's look at what Alan did next .... well, he's made OBRA on the upper right there ...with the B on the double word score ... but in this case it doesn't make any difference to the score, because it's still just 6 x 2 = 12. Incidentally, he would have got just the same score by making OBRA on the next row down, with the B naturally landing on the triple-letter square! ... he still gets 12 .... 1 + 9+ 1+ 1. Let's move on .... This time I've shown you the board a few moves on to save time... Betty did an anagram of ZOTE with the Z on a triple-letter square! .. that got her 33 points. Then Alan cleverly put an S on the bottom of TOZE to make it an anagram of ZOTES, and at the same time made SOCORRO onto the triple-word square on the right edge of the board !! That's 23 x 3 = 69 plus the points for ZOTES as well ( 14) = 83. Ouch ! Because he can stick the RR ( 8 points) on the double-letter square it really boosts the score. Already you can see some of the amazing things you can do with this form of Scrabble. Then Betty realised she could turn HAROA into an anagram of HARAPOSO by adding S + O + P ( the blank) and scores 10 x 3 = 30. Now look down at the next move by Alan ... he's turned AJORCA ( a bracelet) into JAORCA to get both the J and the C on a triple, scoring 24 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 9 + 1 = 37 !!! I think that's shown you some of the things you can do with this Scrabble variant, as they are called. You could try it in your own first language to get started if you like. More variations on Scrabble to come.... ! I seem to remember I put this on here somewhere ages ago ... it's Nena Daconte and "Son Niños " ... Here's the words videos for two of Love of Lesbian's most beautiful songs. |
