Here's somebody's idea as to the "most important" adjectives for everyday life ...
1. lindo 2. feo 3. feliz 4. triste 5.alto
6.bajo 7.grande 8.pequeño 9. simple 10. complicado
11. divertido 12. aburrido 13. rico 14. pobre 15. delicioso
16. repugnante 17. inteligente 18. tonto 19. nuevo 20. viejo
21. abierto 22. cerrado 23. cansado 24. despierto 25. caluroso
26. frío 27. caro 28. barato 29. rápido 30. lento
31. loco 32. tranquilo 33. fuerte 34. débil 35.enfermo
36. sano 37. dulce 38. salado 39. limpio 40. sucio
41. seco 42. mojado 43 injusto 44. justo 45. vacío
46. lleno 47. delgado 48. gordo 49. bueno 50. malo
Quite how they've arrived at that list I don't know ... but one thing's for certain ... you would get a very different list, depending on where you got your sample from..
street conversations ... sport reports .... crossword clues (!) .... political speeches .... comic books .... adverts .... TV soaps .... maths textbooks ..... poems ......plays.... arguments in pubs.... gerdening catalogues ..... wills (!!) ..... hen parties ......
Yes. Very different.
Anyhow, I thought I'd do a mini-survey of adjectives myself.
A sort of surveyette .. not to be confused with a serviette.
So ...here's my own mini-sample ... here's all the adjectives I found from one source ... in order of appearance....... 24 of them...
mala inmunda inmunda espantosa constructiva
rico buena mundial latosa mundial
malcriado malcriado triste original buen
buen descompuesta fácil toda intimo
bueno repugnante mala buena
Variants of "buen" came top ... 5
joint second came inmunda 2
mundial 2
malcriado 2
..and all the others 1 of each.
It's as if I had a "GrammarBlaster" that's blown away everything except the adjectives !
I dare say I could have set it to "remove everything except the nouns"
or maybe " blow away all the words with more than 5 letters"
or perhaps " no adjectives " ... oh, the possibilities !!!
Anyhow, here's my question.....
Can you have a punt at working out what the source of those 24 adjectives might have been? Roughly. I'm not expecting pin-point accuracy. Science fiction ? A pottery manual ? Poetry ? An Astronomy book?
I'll give you a clue ................................. sopa !
