That's a lovely ( and informative ) passage from a book I've mentioned before, "Rosaura a las diez" ( Marco Denevi) ... it's obviously a "set book" because there's loads of those " Study Guides" for it so that students don't need to read it at all.... which rather defeats the object really.
The Spanish is reasonably straightforward, it's quite gripping, so I recommend it.

Here's "Band of the Week " Miss Caffeina with a lively and indeed live rendition of "Gladiator" . On a technical note,"gladus" is the Latin word for a sword ... and what with Spanish being partly descended from Latin, maybe .... let's see ... no, it's nowt like it .. it's " espada" ... what a let-down ! Never mind, the song's smashing ...
