So ... I made my own from some top-quality card. There is the current model up there ... I'll tell you more about that later.
My home-made tiles are 20mm x 18mm, and the usual Bananagrams set has 144 of them, so they make a very nice 12 x 12 grid as you can see.
But here's the big question ... how do you decide how many of each letter you will need?
When I made my first Spanish set I got the "tile list" for a Spanish Scrabble set and just multiplied up, rounded the numbers off, and jiggled it all around a bit to get exactly 144 tiles... remembering that Bananagrams doesn't have any blanks. This worked but it wasn't ideal ... there seemed to be too many of some awkward consonants and not enough vowels.... I did various rejiggings and eventually changed my whole approach and used a "frequency list" of Spanish letters which led me to that grid up there.
You will notice that there are a few hangers-on at the side there! The thing is, based on actual letter-frequency data, they don't justify a place in the set .... but sometimes I take pity of them and bung them in with the rest. I usually regret it when they get me stuck and have to be dumped ignominiously.... then they are left as the last remaining tile ... just like at school when you were the last one anyone wanted in their team.
For reference purposes, here's the tile numbers I've used for those 144 tiles up there...
A18 B2 C6 D7 E21 F1 G1 H2 I 9 J1 L8 M5 N10 Ñ1 O 13 P4 Q1 R9 S10 T7 U6 V1 Z1
Y ought to be in there ( only 1 though) but I've always found it a nuisance so I've kicked it out. It's down there with F, J and Z but I don't like it. Plus, the Ñ doesn't really deserve a place either, and the second one ( out of the set on the right there) would be way out of order. ! .But don't worry.. you can use whatever letters you like, and however many you like ... so far the Bananagrams Police have not been round to my house.
Anyway, you draw out a 12 x 12 grid, section it off into 144 squares, write the letters and colour them , cut them out and get going.
I was going to say than Spanish Bananagrams 301 would be arriving soon, but my camera has got stuck in the half-in-half-out position and is stubbornly refusing the make its mind up, so it might not be all that soon. so we will move hurriedly on to .....
Nena Daconte .... Esperaré .. she's good at these slow songs ...
