You'll need to type accents on your computer ... OK, you can go to the Spanish keyboard but it's a bit of a pain and there are easier ways to do them if you are only writing a short thingy.
First, with a PC you can use ALT codes . Basically you hold down the ALT key and then type in a number using the number keys at the side ... not the ones on the top row. I've only ever needed to use the 4-digit codes, but maybe some of you might need to look up the 3-digit ones .... here we go ...
ALT + 0241 gives you ñ
ALT + 0209 gives you Ñ
ALT + 0161 gives you ¡
ALT + 0191 gives you ¿
ALT + 0225 ........ á
ALT + 0193 ......... Á
ALT+ 0233 .......... é
ALT + 0201 .......... É
ALT + 0237 .......... í
ALT + 0205 .......... Í
ALT +0243 ............ ó
ALT + 0211 ........... Ó
ALT + 0250 ............ ú
ALT + 0218 ............Ú
ALT + 0128 ............. €
Notice the 32 difference between caps and lower-case .... very binary!
Here's how you can do your accents on a mac if you need to .....
First you'll need to know where your "Option" key is ..... it's the ALT key to the right of the CTRL key usually .
To get á you hold down the ALT and e key together, then release .... then type the a......
á ....... ALT + e ... release then press a .... á and so on ....
The other vowels are done in the same way.
If you want capitals, you do the same thing, but when you type the vowel you want, you capitalise it using the shift key in the ordinary way ...
Á ........... ALT + e.....release ... then SHIFT a and you get a lovely Á .
OK ... what about the exciting tilde -ised n .... ñ.. just do ALT + n then type an n .... ñ !!
ñ .......... ALT+n ...release then n ....... ñ
Ñ .......... ALT + n, release ... SHIFT n .... Ñ
Sorted .... how about those ¡ things ? Just do ALT ! key and you get it ..... ¡
How about the ¿ ..... easy ... just do ALT + SHIFT ? ..... ¿ and Bob is your uncle.
Using the ALT key in this way you can play around and find all sorts of symbols ....
π ß ∂ † ∑ œ ≈ ∫ µ ø ¶ ¢ ≠ ........ go on , have a go !
To be honest, I used to use a pre-prepared row of accented letters and symbols which I used to copy onto the bottom af any document I was typing, and just copy and paste letters from this onto my document ..... but that all went when my last-but-one computer packed in. I'll have to recreate it!
Here's Love of Lesbian with the brooding Limousinas .....
